AI content for agencies: the good, the bad, and the boring

Every social media tool now advertises "AI-powered content generation." Most of it is garbage.

After using ChatGPT, Claude, Nova, and others for 2 years across dozens of clients, here's the honest truth about AI content for agencies.

The Good

Speed for first drafts. What used to take 15 minutes per caption now takes 2 minutes. That's real.

Brainstorming variations. Ask AI for 10 caption angles and you'll get 2 or 3 usable ones you might not have thought of.

Consistency of voice (with good prompts). If you feed AI your brand voice guide and past posts, it can maintain that voice better than a freelance copywriter you just hired.

Overcoming the blank page. For any writer, the hardest part is the first draft. AI eliminates that.

The Bad

Cringe corporate energy. Left to its own devices, AI writes like a bland LinkedIn thought leader. "In today's fast-paced world..." No.

Made-up facts. AI happily invents statistics, quotes, and customer testimonials. Fact-check EVERYTHING before publishing.

Formulaic outputs. After 20 AI captions, you notice the same structures: rhetorical question → 3-part list → "comment below with your thoughts!" Break the pattern.

Instantly-detectable if you don't edit. Audiences can smell unedited AI. It costs trust.

The Boring

"Motivational Monday"-type content. AI is TOO good at this. If your entire feed is AI-generated inspirational quotes, congratulations — you sound like everyone else.

Empty variations. Sometimes AI gives you 3 versions of the same idea in different words. Look for actually distinct angles.

How Agencies Should Actually Use AI

1. Use it for the first draft, not the final

Generate → edit → publish. Never publish raw AI output.

2. Feed it your best past posts

Good AI tools let you upload examples. Give it your top-performing content and ask it to match that style.

3. Set a strict word count

AI wants to overwrite. Force it: "Under 100 words." "Under 40 words."

4. Ban corporate speak in your prompt

"Don't say leverage, synergize, unlock, revolutionize, or game-changer." Watch the quality jump.

5. Give it constraints, not just topics

Bad prompt: Write a caption about coffee. Better: Write a caption for a Denver coffee shop announcing 25¢ off espresso on Wednesdays. Voice: local, casual, slight cheek. Under 60 words. No emojis. Include a specific reason to come in.

6. Use AI for what humans hate

  • Hashtag research
  • Caption length variations for different platforms
  • Turning long-form content into social snippets
  • Rewriting for different audiences

7. NEVER let AI reply to comments as you

Human-only zone. AI comment responses are always weird.

Where Nova (Orbit's AI) Comes In

Orbit's Nova is designed for agency workflows:

  • Reads each workspace's brand profile before writing
  • Generates 3 variations per prompt so you have options
  • Suggests content pillars automatically
  • No token limits, no "you've run out of AI credits"
  • Powered by Claude (same tech behind Anthropic)
But Nova still needs YOU. It drafts. You refine.

Good agencies don't replace copywriters with AI. They use AI to make their copywriters 3x more productive.
